A Manchester man was taken to the hospital Friday after a report of a pickup truck on its side about 6:30 p.m. on Northern Avenue in Farmingdale.
Maine State Police Sgt. Jason Madore said Mathew Collins, 34, was taken by Gardiner Rescue to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Initially, a LifeFlight helicopter was called to pick up the injured man, but Madore said it was called off because Collins appeared too combative at that point.
Initial reports from the scene, about 3 miles from the Maine Avenue intersection, said the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was unresponsive.
But Madore said that once Collins was extricated from the vehicle by Farmingdale firefighters, he appeared conscious and alert and was sent to the hospital to be evaluated for any internal injuries.
Madore said the pickup, a GMC Duramax diesel, apparently struck a couple of mailboxes before coming to rest on the driver’s side door.
He said speed and alcohol appear to be involved in the crash and that the incident remains under investigation.
The crash was reported by neighbors who heard the noise.
