A fast moving storm dropped several inches of snow on the Portland area and towns throughout southern Maine before exiting the state Wednesday evening.
Stacie Hanes, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray, said Kennebunkport recorded the most snow with 7 inches.
Other towns saw accumulation as well. The Portland Jetport reported 4.4 inches, Cumberland 5.1 inches, Westbrook 3.5 inches, Brunswick 3.4 inches, Saco 5 inches, Old Orchard Beach 4.3 inches, and Hollis 3.3 inches.
Hanes said Thursday’s forecast is calling for mild weather.
“It should be pretty nice Thursday,” she said, with high temperatures reaching the low 40s.
Several inches of snow fell overnight, leading to slippery roads and scattered school closings by Wednesday morning.
The storm was predicted to drop up to a half-foot of snow across southern Maine, but totals fells short of that in most areas.
A handful of school districts in York County canceled Wednesday classes, including Saco and Wells-Ogunquit. Other districts in York and Cumberland counties delayed the start of school for two hours.
A car and a school bus collided on East Elm Street in Yarmouth on Wednesday morning, but Yarmouth police said there were no children on the bus, and the drivers involved sustained only minor injuries.
