AUGUSTA — A local man was arrested on a drug trafficking charge Wednesday morning after he allegedly sold heroin, but police declined to provide more information about the alleged offense, including how much was sold and what led to the arrest.
Jimmy E. Hosier, 44, was arrested at 11:47 a.m. on Washington Street on a charge of aggravated trafficking of a scheduled drug, said Lt. Chris Read, of the Augusta Police Department.
Hosier was released at the police station on $2,500 in unsecured bail with conditions, including that he not use or possess alcohol, Read said.
Read was unable to provide any other information about Hosier’s arrest, he said, referring to a section of Maine law that prevents police from sharing information that would interfere with a criminal law enforcement proceeding.
A number of factors can lead to drug trafficking charges being classified as aggravated, such as whether the suspect has a firearm at the time of the arrest or a prior conviction for drug trafficking. In this case, Read said the charge was a class A crime, meaning it’s punishable by up to 30 years in jail and a $50,000 fine.
No photograph of Hosier was available because he was released on bail.
