A teenager from Harpswell who had been missing since Monday was located Wednesday night by her brother.
Lilia Simmons, 16, was picked up by her brother after she contacted him on Facebook, said Naldo Gagnon, chief deputy for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
She was not abducted and was not harmed, he said.
Gagnon said the girl, who attends Harpswell Charter School in Brunswick, apparently wanted to be away from her family, but he could not be more specific about her reasons for disappearing.
“All I know is that she wasn’t far away (from home), but she does not want to talk to the police about what happened,” Gagnon said. “We don’t think she was in any danger.”
Gagnon said Simmons’ brother drove to a place in the Harpswell area and picked her up Wednesday night before contacting authorities around 8 p.m.
“We are so relieved. We were very concerned that she went somewhere far from here,” Gagnon said.
Simmons was reported missing Monday by her mother.
Simmons’ mother was scheduled to pick her up from Harpswell Charter School about 2:30 p.m. that day, but the teenager was not there when her mother arrived, said Detective Brian Ackerman of the sheriff’s office.
Ackerman said Simmons had no phone or vehicle, and does not have a driver’s license.
