NEWPORT — Regional School Unit 19 voters appear to have passed the district’s $24 million budget.

An unofficial tally puts the RSU 19 vote at 619 in favor of the budget to 468 against it. Corinna residents voted 83 in favor, 44 against; Dixmont, 113-41; Etna, 63-53; Hartland, 49-72; Newport, 93-67; Palmyra, 93-81; Plymouth, 37-3; and St. Albans, 87-73.

This year’s RSU 19 budget represented a 1.1 percent increase over last year’s budget, with much of that increase coming from rising insurance, special education and techonology costs, Superintendent Mike Hammer said.
