WATERVILLE — The second annual “Kick Around the Clock for Cass,” continuous 11-hour soccer game in honor of Cassidy Charette, is planned for 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at Thomas College. Charette, who wore the #11 jersey, was a midfielder for Messalonskee High School girls soccer, when she was killed in a hayride incident in 2014.
Teams of 11 to 15 people register to play soccer for 30 or 60 minutes in designated time slots throughout the day to keep the time clock running for 11 continuous hours. Players pay a $10 registration fee and will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
Major sponsors of the event are Golden Pond Wealth Management, Central Maine Auto Group, Hamlin’s Marine and Thomas College. All proceeds from the event will support the ShineOnCass Foundation, a charitable nonprofit organization established by the Charette family to educate, inspire and empower youth to shine their own light through volunteer charitable activities.
Riley Field and Emily Hogan, Cassidy’s classmates from Messalonskee class of 2016, are organizing the event.
Eighteen teams have already registered, with room for eight to 10 more, depending on their desired length of playing time. Local field hockey, soccer, football, basketball and track teams are signed up, as well as families and teams from local summer camps.
Cassidy’s former teammates and current players from Messalonskee High School girls soccer team will play against her former teammates from Central Maine United Premiere Soccer for the 11th hour from 7 to 8 p.m. Local youth soccer will participate in a walk-in ceremony.
