WISCASSET — For the first time in almost 20 years, the Maine Art Gallery will collaborate with the Wiscasset Garden Club on a show that celebrates fresh flowers from a creative point of view. Garden club members will create floral arrangements that complement the paintings on exhibit for the opening reception of the show, “Color in Bloom,” from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the gallery at 15 Warren St.
Fifteen local artists, known for their paintings of flowers, have been invited to submit art for the show. Participating Wiscasset Garden Club members will be on hand when the paintings are delivered to the gallery. At that time, they will each adopt a painting and plan an arrangement of fresh flowers to be placed on a nearby pedestal for the opening.
Light refreshments will be served at the opening of the show, and the art will be for sale. The gallery will subsequently be open from noon to 4 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 19 through Sept. 17.
The Maine Art Gallery is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement and preservation of painting, sculpture and graphic arts through exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, and educational programs for children and adults.
