A Waterville man was arrested by Massachusetts State Police at a rest area after they found several drugs in his car, according to a news release.

Ryan Pomeroy, 33, was in a silver Ford Focus with Maine license plates at a rest area along Interstate 495 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, just after midnight Saturday, the release from Massachusetts State Police says.

Trooper Brian Fuller saw Pomeroy “fumbling with something” in the passenger seat of the car with the door open. When Fuller approached him, Pomeroy “quickly moved his hand behind the seat,” the release says.

Fuller reported he saw an open bag of marijuana on the center console of the car. While marijuana is now legal in Massachusetts, it is not legal to consume or have in open containers in public areas.

When Fuller asked about the marijuana, Pomeroy allegedly lifted the bag to show him, inadvertently revealing a clear plastic bag beneath it that contained just over 40 grams of heroin.

After placing Pomeroy under arrest, Fuller also found another plastic bag containing just over 143 grams of cocaine, THC concentrate, two handguns (a .380-caliber Glock model 42 and a Taurus 9 mm caliber model PT 111 pro), and a number of magazines and cartridges.

Pomeroy was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in heroin, possession of class E drugs, two counts of possession of firearms without a license, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.

He was taken to the Middleton County Jail in Middleton, Massachusetts, where he is being held in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
