MADISON — Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in a midday crash that sent one person to the hospital.
Carl Perkins, 52, of Pleasant Ridge, was driving north at 2 p.m. Tuesday on Lakewood Drive, according to Cpl. David Cole, of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, when he drove his 2006 Ford Taurus off the road and onto the shoulder. The car continued off the road into a ditch, with Perkins losing control, and it eventually struck a skidder in the parking lot of equipment dealer Frank Martin Sons, Inc.
Cole said the car sustained heavy damage to the front end, and Perkins was taken to a hospital, complaining of chest pains.
Cole said speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. Perkins was summoned on a charge of operating under the influence.
The crash still is being investigated.
No damage to the skidder or the business was reported.
The Madison Fire Department and AMS Ambulance also responded to a report of the crash.
