Oak Hill Middle School in Sabattus was locked down briefly Thursday after a bus driver overheard a conversation between two students a day earlier on the bus, in which a gun was mentioned.
Police Chief Gary Baillargeon said in a news release no threats were made, no gun was located at the school, and police do not expect to file charges, though a seventh-grade student was removed from school and later released to his mother.
The school went into lockdown around 9:40 a.m. Thursday after school officials were told by a Regional School Unit 4 bus driver of a conversation the driver heard Wednesday afternoon between two students. School administrators then put the school into lockdown mode and notified Sabattus police.
The situation was resolved in about 15 minutes, school officials said on the school’s Facebook page.
“Though no specific threat was made this morning, the school made the correct decision and conducted a lockdown,” Baillargeon said in the news release. “The school administration, staff and students performed flawlessly during this lockdown situation.”
Baillargeon said police have completed their investigation and no charges will be filed.
