The Portland Fire Museum on Spring Street in Portland held its annual open house on Saturday.

The event marks the start of Fire Prevention Week.

Fire history is particularly important in Portland, where in 1866 an intense fire swept across the peninsula and left more than 10,000 persons homeless.

It’s also a chance for some horses to make their appearance.

The museum is operated by the Portland Veteran Firemen’s Association. It’s exhibits include equipment and photographs.
