A Monmouth man was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center on Tuesday after being struck shortly after 5:30 p.m. while crossing Main Street in Winthrop.

Winthrop police Sgt. John Hall said Patrick Derosby, 27, was in a crosswalk when he was struck by a silver Chevrolet sedan driven by Michael Griswold, 31, of Winthrop.

Hall said Derosby was wearing dark clothes, and a combination of glare from oncoming traffic and a wet roadway apparently contributed to Griswold not seeing Derosby as he was driving east on Main Street.

Hall said Derosby suffered injuries that were serious but not life-threatening. A MaineGeneral spokeswoman said he was listed in fair condition.

Traffic was shut down on Main Street in both directions for less than an hour.

The accident remains under investigation.
