Thirteen of the top senior linemen in Maine have been announced as semifinalists for the Frank J. Gaziano Memorial Offensive and Defensive Linemen Awards.
Each player is from a school located in southern Maine and only defensive finalist Zebulun Leavitt of Cheverus played in a North division.
The offensive finalists are Jack Webb of Thornton Academy, Nathan Labrie of Cape Elizabeth, Cole Hoffman of Kennebunk, Nicholas Works of Sanford, Sean McCormack-Kuhman of Wells, and Zach Klein of Bonny Eagle.
In addition to Leavitt, the defensive linemen finalists are Garret Lynn of Thornton, Griffin Aube of Falmouth, Aidan Parmenter of Leavitt, Anthony Griffin of Scarborough, Michael Lunny of Sanford and Arlo Pike of Bonny Eagle.
Each semifinalist will be interviewed as part of an extensive evaluation by the Gaziano selection committee. Three finalists in each category will be determined. The offensive and defensive linemen of the year each will receive $5,000 and a first-place trophy, and the four runners-up receive $1,000 each.
Award winners will be announced at a luncheon ceremony on Jan. 27, at the Augusta Civic Center.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
YORK 48, LAKE REGION 45: Nina Howe scored nine of her game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats (3-2) held on to beat the Lakers (3-2) in York.
Chandler True scored 20 points, including 10 in the fourth for Lake Region, which trailed 35-29 entering the quarter. Lauren Jakobs added 11, and Shauna Hancock chipped in with 10 for Lake Region.
Kristen Leroux added eight points for York.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 42, ST. DOMINIC 37: Shani Plante had 10 points, seven assists and five steals to lead a balanced attack for the Seagulls (4-0) in a victory over St. Dom’s (1-2) at Old Orchard Beach.
After trailing 25-21 at the half, Old Orchard rallied to tie the game 30-30 during a low-scoring third period. The Seagulls scored eight of their 12 fourth-quarter points from the line to push ahead to the win. Meghan LaPlante and Kaitlyn Cote each scored four for the Seagulls in the fourth.
Caroline Gastonguay scored 13 points for the Saints.
CAPE ELIZABETH 44, WAYNFLETE 31: Isabel Berman and Brooke Harvey combined for 11 of their team’s 18 fourth-quarter points as the Capers (2-2) broke open a game they led 26-24 after three quarters against the Flyers (2-2) at Cape Elizabeth.
Erin O’Rourke paced Cape Elizabeth with 17 points, including four baskets from beyond the arc, while Berman finished with 10 points and Harvey nine.
Lydia Giguere led Waynflete with 12 points.
YARMOUTH 38, FYREBURG ACADEMY 18: Sara D’Appolonia scored 20 points for the Clippers (2-2), who used a big second-quarter run to get past the Raiders (0-4) in Fryeburg.
Clementine Blaschke added eight for Yarmouth, which outscored Fryeburg 17-3 in the second to take a 21-9 halftime lead.
Kaylee Emery scored six points for Fryeburg.
FREEPORT 54, TRAIP ACADEMY 27: Taylor Rinaldi scored 19 points, and the Falcons (3-1) held the Rangers (1-4) to six second-half points at Freeport.
Jessie Driscoll had 12 points for Freeport, while Allie Goodman chipped in with eight.
Cassidy Delano was the leading scorer for Traip with 10 points.
BOOTHBAY 51, DIRIGO 33: Syndey Meader poured in a game-high 19 points as the Seahawks (4-0) rolled past the Cougars (0-5) in Dixfield.
Paige Brown added 13 for Boothbay, which outscored Dirigo 20-6 in the third quarter to take a 51-24 lead.
Ashley Perreault scored 10 points to pace the Cougars.
OXFORD HILLS 61, LAWRENCE 52: Megan Curtis scored 14 points for the Bulldogs, who fell to the Vikings in Fairfield.
Camryn Caldwell and Keagan Alley each added 11 points for Lawrence (2-2).
Jadah Adams led Oxford Hills (2-1) with 18 points, while Maighread Laliberte added 12 points.
TEMPLE 40, BUCKFIELD 23: Olivia Baker scored a game-high 12 points and Deleyni Carr added nine as the Bereans prevailed in Buckfield.
Selam Heinrich chipped in with seven points for Temple (1-3) as well.
Hannah Shields scored 11 points to pace Buckfield (1-3).
MADISON 61, HALL-DALE 28: Lauren Hay led Madison with 20 points in a Mountain Valley Conference victory over Hall-Dale in Farmingdale.
Sydney LeBlanc scored 17 points for Madison (5-0), while Emily Edgerly added seven points.
Cat Kincaid earned a double-double for Hall-Dale (2-2), scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Amanda Benner had four points and 10 rebounds.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
FREEPORT 73, TRAIP ACADEMY 59: Eriksen Shea finished with 21 points and sank three second-half 3-pointers as the Falcons (2-2) pulled away from the Rangers (2-2) at Kittery.
After leading 42-39 at halftime, Freeport used an 18-13 advantage in the third quarter to take control.
Ethan Sclar had 18 points for the Falcons, while Toby Holt and Gabe Wagner each chipped in with 10.
Charlie Driscoll scored 23 points for Traip. Dalan Hubbard added 18, while Will Stuart tossed in 12.
OXFORD HILLS 48, LAWRENCE 41: Nick Roberson scored 15 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs, who fell to the Vikings in South Paris.
Isaiah Schooler scored seven points while Kobe Nadeau added six points for Lawrence (2-2). Chris St. Pierre and Colton Carson each scored 11 points for Oxford Hills (1-2).
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
LEWISTON 1, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Sara Roberts scored a short-handed goal 8:26 into the first period, and the Blue Devils (6-1) edged the Red Hornets (2-3-1) at the Colisee in Lewiston.
Manny Guimond stopped 43 shots for Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland.
GREELY 10, WINSLOW 3: Courtney Sullivan scored all three of her goals in the second period, and Greely/Gray-New Gloucester (6-0) cruised past Winslow/Gardiner (5-2) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.
Bridget Roberts also had three goals for Greely, which scored six times in the second period to take a 6-2 lead.
Evelyn Hinkley scored twice for Winslow.
BOYS’ HOCKEY
FALMOUTH 3, ST. DOMINIC 3: Jaden Webster scored the only goal in the third period, rallying the Saints (1-1-1) to a tie with the Yachtsmen (3-0-1) at Auburn.
Marcus Cady gave Falmouth an early lead with help from Nick Farham, but Jacob Lewis countered on a Lucas Pushard feed.
Hunter Hughes scored early in the second to put the Saints up a goal, but a pair of goals for the Yachtsmen in the span of 15 seconds by Brandon Hickey and Cady gave them the advantage after two periods.
