FAIRFIELD — The Kennebec Montessori School will hold a parent workshop at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 38 Sheridan Drive.
The workshop, Math Across the Curriculum, is intended for parents of both current and prospective students. Teachers will demonstrate how the Montessori curriculum allows young children to explore with concrete materials to gain an understanding of mathematical operations into the thousands. With a strong foundation in concrete materials, children can move towards increasingly abstract materials in the elementary years that apply their knowledge of operations to decimal and fraction materials, according to a news release from the school.
The school is an American Montessori Society-accredited school, serving more than 100 children ages 3-12. Construction of a new wing was recently finished to make room for their expansion to grade six.
Those who attend can explore the new space, designed by Phi Architects, of Rockport, and built by Nichols Construction of Bangor. Enrollment for 2018-19 will begin on March 16.
