READFIELD — Coming off an eight run loss to Brewer on Friday, the Lawrence High School softball team needed a spark. The Bulldogs found it Monday at Maranacook.

Lawrence got some timely hitting and took advantage of Maranacook mistakes, while pitcher Sam Marshall was sharp in a 19-0 win in a game shortened to five innings with the mercy rule.

“It feels good to be able to play with a smile on your face again,” Lawrence coach Joey Marcoux said.

Lawrence improved to 3-2, while Maranacook is 1-3.

The Bulldogs scored at least two runs in each inning. Each player in Lawrence’s starting lineup scored at least one run. Five Lawrence runs were unearned. The Bulldogs scored four runs on wild pitches, with two more scoring on passed balls. Lawrence scored eight runs in the top of the fifth, all with two outs, despite getting just two hits in the inning. Six Bulldogs walked in that inning, and Lawrence took 13 walks in the game.

“I was pleased with a lot of stuff we did. We ran the bases really well. We got into there and made some runs with two outs, whereas the other day (against Brewer), we couldn’t seem to get that hit we needed,” Marcoux said.

Cassidy Sirois’ two-run single in the first inning gave Lawrence and Marshall all the runs they’d need. Marshall didn’t allow a hit until Kaylee Jones hit an infield single in the fourth. The Black Bears finished with three singles off Marshall, who struck out six and walked one.

“I had full confidence in myself today. I came pumped. I was ready to play,” Marshall said. “My fastball and my curve were probably my best pitches I threw today.”

Marcoux praised Marshall’s consistency, and the pitch calling of catcher Haley Holt.

“She worked her different pitches and was able to spot some corners. Haley does a nice job calling pitches for her. It’s not often I let catchers call the pitches, but Haley’s deserved that right,” Marcoux said.

Sirois had three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Camryn Caldwell, Megan Curtis and Holt each scored three runs.

“We were aggressive at the plate and we were aggressive (on the bases) too,” Marshall said.
