WINTHROP — The Winthrop softball team scored early and often, in both halves of a doubleheader, as the Ramblers swept a Mountain Valley Conference twin bill from Telstar by scores of 11-4 and 19-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

Kate Perkins had two doubles and two triples to lead the onslaught for Winthrop (7-3) in game one. Bry Baxter and Layne Audet each had two hits in the nightcap, while Audet scattered 10 hits with 11 strikeouts across the two games from the circle.

Telstar dropped to 3-4 with the losses.

BASEBALL

RICHMOND 14, RANGELEY 3, 5 INN.: Matt Rines homered as the Bobcats rolled to the East/West Conference win in Rangeley.

Damon Little added a double for Richmond (7-0), which scored nine runs in the third inning en route to the victory.

Beau Beaulieu tripled for Rangeley (6-3), the Lakers’ only hit off Richmond pitcher Zach Small.

WINTHROP 1-10, TELSTAR 0-2: Maguire Anuszewski threw a four-hit shutout as the Ramblers won the opener of an MVC doubleheader in Winthrop.

Winthrop (6-4) scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the first. Ryan Baird had a double and a single to account for two of the Ramblers’ three hits in the game.

Joseph Dillon had two hits for Telstar (1-5), as did Tyler Hill.

Carson Camick had a triple for Winthrop in the second game, with Cam Wood going the distance in a three-hitter.
