A New Hampshire man was killed in an all terrain vehicle crash in Bingham on Memorial Day weekend.

Game wardens responded about 8:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of a fatal ATV crash on Interconnecting Trail System 87. Charles Goodstein, 55, of Durham, New Hampshire, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from Cpl. John McDonald of the Maine Warden Service.

Goodstein was a passenger on a Polaris Razor side-by-side ATV. The driver of the side-by-side was Blake Barker, also 55, from Hampton, New Hampshire. One of the victims had been pinned beneath the wreckage of the ATV, according to an alert posted via email Sunday night. The accident happened near 896 Bingham Road, also known as U.S. Route 201, about 30 miles north of Skowhegan.

The men were traveling south on ITS 87 along the Kennebec River in Bingham when the crash took place, according to McDonald. Goodstein died at the scene. Barker was found unresponsive.

Barker was taken Sunday evening by Lifeflight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and was listed then in critical condition. Game wardens continue to investigate the incident for contributing factors related to the crash.

As of Monday afternoon, McDonald said there was no additional information on whether speed, alcohol or drug use contributed to the crash. A spokeswoman at Eastern Maine Medical Center said just before 4 p.m. Monday that Barker was listed in serious condition.
