The Maine Girls’ Academy held commencement ceremonies Sunday for its second graduating class at the campus on Stevens Avenue in Portland. Formerly Catherine McAuley High School, the academy is no longer affiliated with the Catholic Church. Amy L. Jolly, head of school, said of the 24 students in the class of 2018: “These girls who graduated today are the second to the last of the girls who came in under McAuley, so we were really careful when we came up with the celebration to mix some of the old traditions with our new traditions, and I really think the girls did a lovely job understanding that we have a rich tradition, but also looking ahead at our new future.”
