SMITHFIELD — Two teenagers suffered minor injuries Thursday morning during a rollover on Wilder Hill Road, which police say was caused by excessive speed.
Kane Grondin, 17, of Oakland, was traveling in a white 2005 Chevrolet Impala around 10:29 a.m. with passenger Samantha Joy, 19, of Norridgewock, at an imprudent rate of speed when he lost control at the curve and the car rolled over into the ditch on the north side of the street, according to Chief Deputy James Ross, of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Both Grondin and Joy suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
The vehicle, which is registered to Grondin’s mother, Sandra Baker, also of Oakland, could not be driven after the accident. Damage to the vehicle included a shattered rear window, a dented roof and a detached driver’s side wing mirror.
Ross said charges have been filed against Grondin, including imprudent speeding and carrying passengers with an intermediate license.
Cpl. Matt Cunningham and Deputy Isaac Wacome responded to the accident for the sheriff’s office. The Smithfield Fire and Rescue Department and Delta Ambulance also responded to a report of the accident.
