RANGELEY — A man has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman during a gathering early Wednesday at a local residence.
Peter Michael Rocafort Stravecky, 19, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, was arrested early Saturday on a felony charge of gross sexual assault, according to Rangeley police Sgt. Jared Austin.
A conviction on the charge carries maximum penalties of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
The alleged victim went to the Franklin County Regional Communications Center in Farmington on Friday and told dispatchers she wanted to file a complaint of sexual assault, according to Austin’s court affidavit.
The woman, accompanied by an advocate from the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services, also went to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for an examination.
Rocafort Stravecky and the woman were acquainted, according to police, and alcohol and marijuana were at the gathering.
The alleged victim claimed she was impaired and could not have given consent to have sex, while Rocafort Stravecky claims it was consensual, according to the court document.
The investigation is continuing.
Rocafort Stravecky was being held Monday at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington. He was expected to appear before a judge later in the day.
