AUGUSTA — A 35-year-old Winthrop man is charged with possessing child pornography.
Ryan R. Cameron was arrested Friday in Winthrop on an indictment charging him with four counts of possession of sexually explicit materials depicting children under 12.
He was scheduled to be arraigned by a judge Monday afternoon at the Capital Judicial Center via video from the Kennebec County jail.
The indictment, handed up by a Kennebec County grand jury on July 19, was sealed until his arrest. Bail on the arrest warrant had been set at $1,000.
An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it indicates that there is enough evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial.
It says that “on or about July 26, 2017, in Readfield” Cameron had four separate computer data files depicting children in sexually explicit conduct.
There is no other information in the court file about the case, which was investigated by Maine State Trooper David Armstrong of the Computer Crimes Unit.
