AUGUSTA — Lithgow Library will waive its overdue fines when patrons bring in food or toiletries for the library’s donation drive taking place the month of January at the library at 45 Winthrop St.
All donations will be delivered at the end of the month to the Augusta Food Bank and Bridging the Gap’s Everyday Basics Essentials Pantry, according to a news release from the library.
The library also will take donations from those who don’t have fines and aren’t a member.
The need for basic food and toiletries is enormous. While the library will accept any non-perishable food item or unopened toiletries, the following items are especially needed:
• Everyday Essentials Basics Pantry: toilet paper, powdered laundry detergent, full-size bottles of shampoo, full-size bar soaps, toothpaste and toothbrushes (for adults and children), diapers (size 4-6), diaper wipes, tampons, sanitary pads (regular and super).
• Augusta Food Bank: peanut butter, baked beans, juice boxes, canned fruit.
Donations will be accepted at the circulation desk. The library will accept donations during its regular library hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The library will be closed Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day and Jan. 21 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
