A seven-week course to provide the basic information to get started as a beekeeper will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Feb. 26 through April 9, at the American Legion Post 37, Starr Street in Thomaston.
This course is designed for first- and second-year beekeepers and is offered by experienced beekeepers from the Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers, the Maine State Beekeepers Association and the Maine’s State Bee Inspector.
Beekeeping basics, equipment needs, seasonal management, honey bee diseases and pest management are among a wide variety of topics that will be covered during the course in lecture format, power-point presentations and hands-on experiences.
The course fee is $60, which includes a textbook, handouts and a pro-rated yearly membership in KLCB.
