AUGUSTA — The Maranacook boys basketball team got some hardware after a stellar regular season.

The Winslow girls, meanwhile, got the sort of victory that could give them just the jolt they needed.

Maranacook defeated Oceanside 71-60 to win the KVAC Class B boys basketball championship, while Winslow stunned undefeated Waterville, 53-25.

Maranacook (16-2), which will be the second seed in the Class B South tournament, got 28 points (and six 3-pointers) from Cash McClure, and had a 37-27 lead by halftime. The Mariners (13-5) cut the gap to five at 61-56 going into the fourth, but the Black Bears outlasted them down the stretch.

Mitch Root added 16 points for Maranacook, while Duncan Rogers added eight and Aric Belanger scored seven. The Black Bears overcame 32 points from Cooper Wirkala, and Amos Anderson added 14.

Winslow had put together a 12-6 regular season and will be seeded fifth in the B North tournament, but the Black Raiders likely got a boost of confidence in beating Waterville, which went 18-0 during the regular season and had defeated Winslow twice along the way.
