Two teenagers were taken into custody this week after reports of suspicious activity at a home on Troy Road in Detroit.
Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster said a deputy was sent in response to a call about 5 p.m. Tuesday in which the caller reported the two juveniles on bicycles at a vacant home.
As Deputy Toby Blodgett began checking the front of the residence, he was informed by a dispatcher that the two teenagers had fled from the back of the residence into the woods. Blodgett requested a police dog unit to track the pair.
Pittsfield police and Maine State Police assisted in setting up a perimeter while waiting for the tracking dog, Lancaster said. Cpl. Rick Moody, of the state police, saw two juveniles matching the description along the woods line on Tuttle Road in Detroit.
The canine started the track from where Moody last saw the two youngsters, and they were both apprehended within a few minutes, according to Lancaster. The two 16-year-olds — a girl and a boy — were charged with attempted burglary and criminal mischief. They were given a July court date and released to their parents or legal guardian.
The case will be sent to the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office and the Juvenile Probation Office, Lancaster said.
