Maine Art Gallery Wiscasset opened the season with Youth Art Exhibit. The old Wiscasset Academy building at 15 Warren St. in Wiscasset is home to the gallery, whose mission is to foster creativity and cultural expression in Maine. As an old school house, it is also an appropriate setting for this display of student art, according to a news release from the gallery.
The exhibit will be on view through May 19.
“We begin the season with an exhibit of the most original art of all — that done by children. We hope it will bring many children to the gallery and to an appreciation of viewing art in a gallery space,” said Marcia Sewall, chair of the Education Committee for the all-volunteer Maine Art Gallery Wiscasset, according to the release.
Schools participating in the Youth Art Exhibit include Chewonki Elementary School, Coastal Christian Academy, Damariscotta Montessori School, Great Salt Bay Community School, Nobleboro Central School, Sheepscot Valley Children’s House, Southport Central School, Wiscasset Elementary School and Wiscasset Middle High School.
Gallery hours are noon-4 p.m. weekends.
