SIDNEY— Maine State Police were dispatched to the Lyons Road exit on Interstate 95 near Sidney at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning to respond to a report of a rollover accident, according to Corporal Rick Moody.
In a statement released on Sunday, Moody said that the crash occurred when Michael Moore, 74, of Texas was operating his 2017 GMC pickup truck and hauling a travel trailer southbound with his wife Susan Moore, 68, in the passenger seat. Michael drifted into the passing lane and collided with Janet Arthur, 60, of Tennessee who was driving a 2007 Infiniti with two passengers, Linda Overly, 55, and Barbera Knigge, 53.
The two vehicles went off the road into the median where Moore’s pickup truck and camper rolled over the sedan and came to rest partially on top of it.
Overvay and Knigge were transported to Augusta Maine General Hospital for minor injuries. The Moore’s were also transported to Augusta for minor injuries and their two dogs were taken by an Animal Control Officer while the Moore’s were being treated.
In a follow-up at the hospital, Michael disclosed that he has a heart condition which caused him to “white” out and cause the crash. Michael is being kept at MaineGeneral for observation for medical issues unrelated to the crash.
Officials have determined that speed and impairments were not factors in this crash and a medical issue is the known cause.
The left lane was closed down from the Drummond Road overpass approximately two miles from the accident site for two hours.
In addition to the State Police, the Sidney Fire Department and Delta Ambulance responded to the call.
