ANSON — The local election and annual Town Meeting in Anson are set for Saturday at Garret Schenck School at 19 Ken Taylor St.

The polls are scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the business portion of the Town Meeting is to begin at 2:30 p.m.

Town reports were available beginning March 1.

“It’s pretty quiet, actually,” Town Administrator Tammy Murray said Thursday. “There’s nothing out of the ordinary at all this year.”

The proposed budget totals $1,811,823, up $59,275, or about 3.3%, from current spending, according to Murray.

“We’re looking to buy a plow truck,” Murray said. “And the Fire Department made a capital request for an air tank, and that’s $58,000.”

Murray said property taxes are not expected to increase. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many items that were funded in the previous calendar year did not happen, including Madison Anson Days and some recreation programs.

“Because of COVID,” Murray said, “we didn’t use a lot of the (budget) lines from last year, so we carried those forward.”

No major ordinances or warrants are being proposed, although an amendment is proposed to the marijuana ordinance passed at last year’s Town Meeting, according to Murray. The amendment adds medical marijuana to the ordinance, reflecting changes to Maine law.

The ordinance passed last year authorized selectmen to regulate the location, licensing and operation of retail marijuana businesses within the town.

It also laid out the process for applying for a permit, security requirements, license requirements and state laws, regulations and penalties for violating the ordinance.
