Albion residents will consider a proposed budget of $1.18 million at the annual Town Meeting on Saturday, March 20, a decrease of $10,627 from last year’s approved $1.19 million budget.
The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the Albion Fire Station. Elections will be held the previous day — Friday, March 19 — from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Besse Building.
Brent Brockway is running unopposed for a two-year term on the Albion Select Board, a position previously held by Peter Fortin, who resigned. Write-ins will be accepted for a three-year and one-year term on that board. The three-year position is open because select board member Beverly Bradstreet’s term is up and she is not seeking reelection, and the open one-year spot was previously held by Walden Linnell, who resigned.
Incumbent Billie-Jo Brown-Woods is running unopposed for a two-year term on the Maine School Administrative District 49 board of directors. She was appointed as a board member in November 2020 when a member resigned and now is seeking election to the three-year term.
Voters will be asked to consider spending $345,000 for snow removal and sanding; $94,700 for town officers; up to $45,000 for professional services and miscellaneous town expenses; $72,500 for fire and rescue services; and $30,000 for contracted services for rural patrol law enforcement, the public safety answering point and fire and rescue dispatching.
Also, voters will consider spending $120,000 from taxation, $1,000 from Municipal Review Committee credit, and $35,000 from the general fund for recycling, a cleanup day, house-to-house trash pickup and disposal fees.
Town Clerk Jeanie Doore said that the Town Meeting is being held at the fire station to accommodate the state limit of 50 people assembled indoors during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We are asking residents to wear a mask if they are able to and to maintain 6-foot social distance,” she said.
Doore also serves as the town’s tax collector, treasurer and registrar of voters.
