CHINA — China Middle School is shifting to fully remote learning until March 29 due to a positive case of COVID-19, Regional School Unit 18 Superintendent Carl Gartley announced Thursday in a letter to parents.

“I am writing to you this afternoon to tell you that there was a person associated with the China Middle School who has tested positive for COVID-19,” Gartley wrote. “Unfortunately, due to the details of this incident, we will have to shift China Middle School to Remote only learning throughout next week.”

China Middle School at 773 Lakeview Drive enrolls about 204 students and is part of RSU 18, which serves Belgrade, China, Oakland, Rome and Sidney.

School nurse Bonnie Newcombe and Principal Lois Bowden said they had conducted contact tracing. All close contacts have been notified.
