Winthrop High School has announced its top 10 students for the class of 2021.

Kerrigan Laurel Anuszewski, daughter of Loren and Kristel Anuszewski of Winthrop, is class valedictorian. She has a very active school life both academic and extracurricular. Her activities include varsity field hockey, captain grade 11 and 12; tennis, unified basketball, Drama Club, co-chairwoman of Student Leadership Team, class president, grades 9, 10, 11 and 12; line producer and reporter for school news channel WBUS and National Honor Society treasurer.

She also has been involved in many organizations outside of school including being a volunteer at MaineGenera Medical Center in its music therapy program and doing desk work on Maternity Floor, a volunteer at Camp Med-O-Lark in Washington, Maine, as a leader in training, and a YMCA Youth field hockey coach.

Anuszewski plans to attend Bates College in the fall and will be a member of their field hockey team.

Jacob Murphy Smith, son of John and Rachel Smith of Winthrop, is class salutatorian. He has had many interests in school, such as varsity soccer, junior varsity basketball, drama, French Club, Math Club, National Honor Society and Student Government. Outside of school he has won a National Gold Medal for Photography, been involved in a tutoring program and is a registered EMT.

Smith plans to attend college in the Rockies, most likely Montana State University. He plans to major in neuroscience, leading to Medical School to become an emergency medicine physician.

Hannah Duley Contributed photo

Hannah Elizabeth Duley is the daughter of Jason Moody and Terri Simonson of Winthrop. She has been an all-year athlete at Winthrop High School. Her sports include field hockey (grade 9, 10, 11 and 12), tennis (grades 9, 10, 11 and 12), and basketball for two years.

Duley plans to attend Husson University to study criminal justice — psychology.

Rowan Goebel-Bain Contributed photo

Rowan Goebel-Bain is the son of Michael and Angela Goebel-Bain of Winthrop. His school activities include soccer, National Honor Society, Student Leadership, Latin Club and one-act plays. Outside of school has has been involved with Southern Maine Astronomers, a nonprofit organization. He also has been a volunteer at the Winthrop Food Pantry.

Goebel-Bain plans to attend Dartmouth College and major in astrophysics.

Noah Grube is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Heinrich Grube of Winthrop. He has been involved year-round in school activities including soccer, basketball, tennis, Student Leadership, class officer and National Honor Society.

At this time he has not made a final selection of his college and major.

Dana Lesko Contributed photo

Dana Lesko is the daughter of Dirk Lesko and Carla Souther of Winthrop. Her team activities at school include field hockey, girls basketball manager, tennis and Yearbook Club. Outside of school she was involved in fundraising for the National Eating Disorder Association.

Lesko plans to attend Smith College to major in psychology, with a minor in political science. She will also play field hockey at Smith.

Ella Michaud is the daughter of Jason and Christine Michaud of Winthrop. Her school activities include Yearbook co-senior editor, Student Council and National Honor Society. Outside of school she is an avid dancer, taking classes in ballet, pointe, jazz and tap. She has performed as Clara in “The Nutcracker” at the Dance Center in Auburn.

Michaud plans to attend the University of Maine to major in mathematics with a minor in dance. She would like to become a teacher after college.

Nathan Miller Contributed photo

Nathan Miller is the son of Jared and Beth Miller of Winthrop. He has been another year-round athlete in school as well as having other pursuits. He has participated in golf, hockey, lacrosse, Student Council, Robotics and as a reporter for the WBUS the high school news channel. Outside of school, since seventh grade, he has been a mentor in the local Learn to Skate Program.

Miller plans to attend college in an engineering program.

Madisyn R. Oberg is the daughter of Christopher and Johannah Oberg of Winthrop. Her school activities have included National Honor Society officer, Latin Club and mentoring and cooking with students in the Life Skills Program.

Oberg plans to attend college and major in nursing. Her final college selection has not been determined at this time.

Abigail Rose Ross is the daughter of Christopher and Kristen Ross of Winthrop. Her school activities have been varied, encompassing athletic and academic pursuits including Yearbook, National Honor Society, Student Council, field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse. Outside of school she is a junior firefighter for Winthrop.

Ross plans to attend Franklin Pierce University, where she will play field hockey for the school and major in physical therapy.
