The article on the planned construction of a new Augusta police station (“New station could cost $20.5M,” March 25) does not mention what will happen to the Augusta Adult and Community Education program, which currently shares the antiquated building with the police station.
According to the article, the Augusta Housing Authority plans to raze the building and build its offices and affordable housing at the location. No mention is made of where the Adult Education program will move. Shouldn’t that be part of the discussion and included in the funding referendum?
Many adult students, including immigrants, depend on the program. They certainly deserve to be located in a suitable location. Hopefully, the Planning Board and City Council will address this need.
