100 Years Ago: 1921
Amidst the cheers of the crowd and the tooting of whistles and the music of the band, the auxiliary schooner “Bowdoin,” built to carry Donald M. MacMillan, the explorer, on his next Arctic voyage, was successfully launched just at noon Saturday from the Hodgson Brothers yard here, at East Boothbay. Fully 500 witnessed the launching, and it was as pretty a slide as could be imagined. A heavy fog was the only handicap on the day’s plans. Mrs. May Fogg of Freeport christened the schooner.
50 Years Ago: 1971
A rummage sale will be held by the Nurses Alumni of the Central Maine General Hospital Saturday May 8. Sales will open at nine o’clock at the Alden M. Gayton American Legion Post Home on Pleasant Street, Auburn. Mrs. Robert N. Bosse is the chairman and Mrs. Walter Wood of Sabattus is co-chairman of the sale and they may be contacted for pick up of articles.
25 Years Ago: 1996
The Lake Thompson Senior Citizen Club will meet on Thursday April 18 at the Anderson-Staples Legion Hall on Route 121. Dinner will be served by the local snowmobile club. Barbara Frost will narrate the “Story of the Divorce Quilt.”
