With two millionaires to beat in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by retiring Sen. William Cohen, Susan Collins has started early. She was in Jay, Wilton, and Farmington Monday, meeting voters and drumming up some local support. Raised in Caribou and working now in Bangor, Franklin County is hardly Collins geographic base. In  spite of it  being a holiday, her walk on Main Street in Farmington was productive. She caught up with old friend and supporter Peter Mills, who remembered that her grandfather was in the Maine Senate many years ago when Mills himself served in the house. Meeting local businessman Marty Pike, she sent along warm regards for his father, Ben, who is also an old friend. And Dot Wing, out for some exercise with Jeannette Sproul, greeted Collins warmly and said she reads every article she finds about Collins in the news.
