LISBON — Lisbon baseball coach Randy Ridley said Friday was first baseman Ethan Brown’s best outing at the plate so far this season.
There was no question about that. Brown ripped a pair of doubles and drove in four runs in a 10-2 victory over Mt. Abram in a Mountain Valley Conference showdown.
“It was a good day at the plate,” Brown said. “We played a heckuva game. We knew they were the top team in the conference right now, and they were gunning for us, coming off states two years ago. Everybody wants to beat us.”
The Roadrunners struck first in the in the opening inning. Hunter Warren got on with a walk and moved to third base on Ben DiBiase’s hit and a passed ball. Warren then came home on another passed ball to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.
But the Greyhounds (3-1) opened up on Mt. Abram in the bottom half of that inning.
Lisbon used a four-hit attack and a couple of walks to punch in five runs. Levi Tibbetts brought home Neil LaRochelle, who got on with a hit. Booker, who doubled, came home when Nick Ferrence walked with the bases loaded. With three men still on, Brown belted a bases-clearing double to give the Greyhounds with a 5-1 lead.
Things quieted down until the third inning. Mt. Abram got its second run when Kenyon Pillsbury walked and eventually advanced to third before scoring on a passed ball.
The Greyhounds also picked up one run in the third inning. Tibbetts doubled and came home on Brown’s RBI double, making Lisbon’s lead 6-2.
Lisbon picked up two more runs in the fourth thanks RBI singles by LaRochelle and Tibbetts. The Greyhounds topped off their scoring with a pair runs in the bottom of the sixth. LaRochelle got on due to an error and Booker was hit by a pitch. They both came on Tibbetts’ RBI double.
“We didn’t execute,” Mt. Abram coach Jeff Pillsbury said. “When you play good teams, and you don’t execute, they make you pay. So the game was pretty much over in the first inning.”
