A single-car motor vehicle crash Tuesday night damaged the front entrance of a house on Townsend Road in Augusta and knocked out power to over 1,700 households.
“There were no injuries involved in the crash,” Augusta police Sgt. Jesse Brann said in an email. “Besides the damage to the car, the other damage involved some siding to the house the front deck and the lawn and of course the telephone pole.”
The crash involved a red 2021 Chevrolet Equinox, and officials said the cause was driver overcorrection and inexperience. The driver is not facing any criminal charges, Brann said.
The crash knocked out power to 1,746 Central Maine Power customers due to a broken pole, spokesperson Catharine Hartnett said in an email. The outage lasted from approximately 8:10-9:19 p.m., affecting areas of Augusta and Sidney.
