FAIRFIELD — A two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on U.S. Route 201 near the Good Will-Hinckley school resulted in minor injuries to the drivers involved, police said.

One of the drivers told police he fell asleep at the wheel, causing the crash. The Fairfield Police Department received a call about the crash around 9:44 a.m.
The two vehicles were traveling north on the state route, according to Fairfield police Officer Casey Dugas. The first car slowed down to make a left turn, and was hit from behind by the second vehicle. The second vehicle then veered off the road and into the woods off Route 201.
Cody Hawthorne was driving the second vehicle and said that he had just finished a shift at work and was on his way home when he dozed off, according to Dugas.
Both drivers had minor injuries following the crash, Dugas said. Hawthorne’s car appeared to have significant damage, and while a towing company had to remove a few trees to attach the hook to the car, they were able to retrieve the vehicle.
