In a special municipal election Tuesday, Pittsfield residents voted for Michael Cianchette to join the Town Council through December.
Cianchette has previously served on the council, and was the only candidate on the ballot. He received 110 votes, with nine blank ballots.
The seat on the council has been empty since Debra Billings resigned earlier this year for personal reasons, according to Pittsfield Town Manager Kathryn Ruth. Cianchette will serve for the rest of Billings’ original term, through December.
In November, the town will hold its regular election and will elect a councilor to the seat for the full three years. Cianchette could not be reached Thursday for comment on whether he intends to run for the full term.
Although the seat has been empty for several months, the council has still had enough members to conduct business, which was part of the reason the special election was not held sooner, along with concerns about the cost and voter turnout.
