Barbara Tribou Cotter

ROSSMOOR, Calif. – Barbara Tribou Cotter, 86, passed away on March 30, 2021, from natural causes in Rossmoor, Calif. Barbara was born in Bar Harbor on April 15, 1934, and was the daughter of Warren J. Tribou and Eleanor Stafford of Bar Harbor. Barbara grew up in Bar Harbor and Bangor, moved to Augusta, and attended Cony High School for her senior year. She graduated from Cony in 1952.

Barbara led an active and rewarding life. She loved to entertain as she hosted many gatherings for family and friends. She happily attended countless sporting events and recitals for her five children and her grandchildren. Barbara walked three miles a day for most of her life, she loved tennis, skiing at Sugarloaf, water-skiing on Cobbossee Lake, and was an avid golfer. She was also a member of the Augusta Country Club, Purpoodock in Cape Elizabeth, and Jonathan’s Landing in Jupiter, Fla., (where she scored a hole-in-one). Barbara was a dedicated fan of all New England sports teams with a special affinity for the Patriots and Red Sox.

Barbara was a devoted wife of the late Joseph F. Cotter and a loving mother and stepmother to her 13 children. She was also the wife of the late Wm. Michael Salter, with whom she had five children. Barbara is survived by the following children and stepchildren, Wm. Michael Salter of Raleigh, N.C., Stephen Salter of Los Angeles, David Salter and wife, Nancy, of Johns Creek, Ga., James Salter and wife, Melissa, of Portland, Jennifer Friedman and husband, Jason, of Rossmoor, Calif., Robert Cotter and wife, Elizabeth, of Hollywood Beach, Fla., Michael Cotter and wife, Margaret, of Scituate, Mass., Richard Cotter and wife, Onessa, of Miami, Mary Engels and husband, William, of Hingham, Mass., Kathleen Dulac and husband, David, of Milton, Vt., Ann Mack and husband, James, of Scituate, Mass., Christine Lagrotteria and husband, Tom, of Scituate, Mass., Peter Cotter and wife, Lynn, of Hingham, Mass.; as well as, nephew, Warren Vinansky of Brewer, niece, Karin Noble, of Kissimmee, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cohasset, Mass., on July 15 at 11 a.m.
