Lawrence “Jack” Maillet

AUGUSTA – Lawrence “Jack” Maillet passed away peacefully at home with his daughters by his side on June 28, 2021.

He was born in Madison, on Sept. 25, 1928. His parents were the late Appoline and Laurent Maillet.

He graduated from Madison High School, attended Thomas College, and then moved to Connecticut for work in a wire drawing factory. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in December of 1950. He served two years and was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class of the 747 Amphibious Tank and Tractor Battalion. He then married Constance (MacDonald) on Jan. 3, 1953. He graduated from the Boston School of Mechanical Dentistry and worked at Tufts Dental School. They returned to Maine as he began his 34-year career as a dental technician at the Togus campus of the Veteran’s Administration. He and Connie moved to North Port, Florida, fulltime in 1996. Jack returned to Maine in 2020 after his wife of 67 years passed away in Florida.

He loved his family and friends, enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, fiddleheading, and he coached Pee Wee basketball. He was a very active member of the Gardiner Elks Club, sitting on all chairs, including Exalted Ruler. He was also the Americanism Chairman.

He was a member of the Cobbosee Golf Club and an avid bocci player in North Port, Florida’s, Holiday Park. He enjoyed many fishing trips up to Fish Pond with family and friends, and he had many stories he enjoyed talking about.

He was predeceased by his parents, Appoline and Laurent Maillet; his wife, Constance L. Maillet; his two sons, James and John Maillet; his nine sisters: Theresa, Della, and Dora Maillet, Alma Vigneault, Lauria Leblanc, Evelyn Butler, Flavia Laslow, Phyllis Bragg, and Josephine Deroche; and two brothers: Sylvain and Edouard Maillet.

He is survived by his two daughters: Lisa Cookson and Lauren Simpson (Mark).

He had eight grandchildren: Jason, Caleb and Cedric Simpson, Chad Maillet, Jackie Gosselin, Jenna McLaughlin, Holden Cookson, and Sarah Cookson-Gillis; seven great-grandchildren: Ted, Lilla, Scout, Avery, Wes, and Rye Simpson, and Benjamin Crocker Maillet; and three daughters-in-law: Deborah Maillet, Janet Weed (deceased), and Teresa Holmes.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial held for Lawrence on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10 a.m., at St. Sebastian’s Church, 149 Main Street, Madison, followed by a graveside service with full military honors at Father Rasle Cemetery, Father Rasle Road, Norridgewock. The service will be followed by a luncheon at St. Sebastian’s Church in Madison.
