Phyllis Blackstone of Blackstone Storytelling will present an evening of folktales from around the globe at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at the Lewiston Public Library. This free, public program will be in-person in the Couture Room on the first floor and simultaneously streamed to the Library’s Facebook page.
The theme will be tales of tails and the night will begin with a couple of stories with animal protagonists who find themselves in situations from which lessons can be drawn. This will be followed by a discussion of the histories of the tales and the applicable universal truths. Registration for the event is highly recommended for in person attendance.
Dr. Phyllis Blackstone, storyteller extraordinaire and retired professor of educations, currently resides in Brunswick. She used storytelling as her preferred teaching tool with first graders to graduate students. In her retirement she tells a variety of stories to children, adults, senior citizens and special audiences. Folktales in her repertoire are stories of wisdom and truth. Her personal stories, sometimes humorous but always poignant, include her “Occasional Stories (Upon the Occasion of…)”, stories from “See the USA … in a Roadtrek,” and “Meet My Family,” tales of observing life as a baby sister in a large farming family from Caribou. She tells sacred stories at faith-based gatherings and churches that are from the heart and good for the soul. More information is available at her website, blackstonestoryteller.com.
