SKOWHEGAN — Pamela White is scheduled to be the speaker for the 2021 Margaret Chase Smith Library Leeke-Shaw Lecture on International Affairs, to be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, via Zoom.

The event is cosponsored by the Mid-Maine Global Forum.

White had a long career as a diplomat. Following graduation from the University of Maine in 1971, she served in Cameroon as a Peace Corps volunteer. In 1978 she joined the United States Agency for International Development. Over the next two decades, she worked on a variety of foreign aid projects, primarily in Africa.

In 2010 she was appointed U.S. ambassador to The Gambia and two years later became ambassador to Haiti.
