WATERVILLE — In observance of Family Caregiver Month and to benefit the Maine Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the family of Ellen MacMichael recently gathered together as Team Ellen’s Kids and raised $40,000 for the Kennebec Valley area Walk to End Alzheimer’s and they are not stopping.
MacMichael now resides at Bedside Manor in Oakland. Her house was where many congregated. She was regarded as an excellent cook with a special talent in donut making, and in 1983 there was an article in the Morning Sentinel titled “Ellen’s cooking tastes just like Mom’s,” according to an event news release.
When MacMichael was 60, she started having trouble with her memory. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and her husband retired to care for her.
The family plans to hold another fundraiser walk from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Bigelow Brewing at 473 Bigelow Hill Road in Skowhegan.
