Ever since Kabul fell to the Taliban, people in Maine have been working to try to get relatives out of harm’s way and safely resettled in Maine. Dr. Abdul Rahman Qani, president of the Afghan Community of Maine, will lead an online panel discussion in the Connecting Across Cultures “New Mainers” series at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, with the Camden Public Library.
Also on the panel will be Afghan Community leaders Sara Jafari, Rona Sayed, Zahid Abid, and Sami Shahed. The discussion will include glimpses into life in Afghanistan today, an overview of the Afghan community in Maine, and an explanation of humanitarian parole, sponsorships, and other practical ways Mainers can help Afghans.
Connecting Across Cultures is a network of volunteers that celebrates diversity and helps New Mainers as they navigate life in the midcoast and beyond. More information about the group and their efforts can be found on the Connecting Across Cultures Facebook page.
