AUGUSTA — Luke Briggs became the Cony boys basketball program’s fifth 1,000-point scorer, netting 19 points to help the Rams handle Lawrence 89-52 in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference action Wednesday night.
Briggs, who entered the game 14 points shy, reached the number on a 3-pointer from the left corner midway through the third quarter. The game was stopped for a ceremony, and Briggs was given the ball by former teammate Simon McCormick, Cony’s last 1,000-point scorer.
“It speaks to all the time that that kid has put into being a good basketball player,” Cony coach T.J. Maines said. “He loves it. He loves hoops, he put a lot of time into it, and from a young age he wanted to be really good. He’s done that. He has a really good feel for it, and I give him a lot of credit. He’s super unselfish.”
Briggs added six assists, while Dom Napolitano scored 16, Parker Sergent had 14 and Kam Douin scored 12 to join him in double figures for Cony (12-6), which wrapped up the fourth seed in Class A North.
The Bulldogs finished their regular season at 6-12.
MT. BLUE 73, ERSKINE 49: The Cougars took control early, building a 24-8 lead after one quarter on their way to the KVAC A win in South China.
Mt. Blue’s (8-9) Chandler Briggs hit four 3-pointers and topped all scorers with 19 points. Three other Cougars scored in double figures: Evans Sterling had 16, Charles Stevens (two 3s) 12 and Zach Poisson 11.
Liam Perfetto scored 15 and Kaden Doughty finished with 14 for Erskine (1-16).
MARANACOOK 53, LEAVITT 47: Brayden St. Pierre and Chris Reid each scored 19 points as the Black Bears improved to 9-7 with a KVAC B win in Readfield.
Sawyer Hathaway scored 16 points to lead the Hornets (11-7).
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 61, HALL-DALE 37: The Phoenix improved to 16-0 with a decisive Mountain Valley Conference victory in Farmingdale.
Jace Bessey drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points for Spruce Mountain. Ian York made four 3s and contributed 16 points, while Lucas Towers hit two treys and scored eight points.
TJ Wilson led Hall-Dale (6-12) with 17 points.
VALLEY 71, RANGELEY 49: The Cavaliers outscored the Lakers 26-7 in the second quarter to break open was was a three-point game after one period in an East/West Conference win in Rangeley.
Fisher Tewksbury and Jared Ricker paced Valley (10-3) with 20 and 18 points, respectively.
Rangeley (2-10) was led by Chase Carmichael’s 14 points, while Anthony Whittier added 12 and Austin Hathaway scored 10.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
HALL-DALE 57, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 43: Amanda Trepanier scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs to the Mountain Valley Conference victory in Farmingdale.
KK Wills had 14 points for Hall-Dale (16-0), while Hayden Madore scored nine.
Olivia Mastine had 11 points and Jaden Pingree scored 10 for the Phoenix (12-5).
VALLEY 70, RANGELEY 52: Madeline Hill scored 25 points to lead the Cavaliers to the East/West Conference win in Rangeley.
Brielle Hill added 19 points for Valley (12-1) while Rylee Clark finished with 15.
Rangeley falls to 9-3.
MADISON 35, MONMOUTH 25: Arabel Linkletter scored 14 points and hauled in seven rebounds to pace the Bulldogs to the MVC win in Madison.
Hailey Paquet added eight points for Madison (10-7) while Alison Griffeth had three points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Monmouth (3-8) was led by Holly Hunt with seven points and Reese Beaudoin with six.
GARDINER 56, MORSE 34: Megan Gallagher had 19 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Tigers to the KVAC win in Gardiner.
Lizzy Gruber added 18 points for Gardiner (16-1) while Kylee Nichols chipped in eight.
Morse (5-10) was led by Dakota Shipley with 18 points and Olivia Chabot with eight.
