Wives of Lewiston Police Department patrolmen have organized an auxiliary and have elected Mrs. Ronald Lessard, chairman of the Auxiliary, Mrs. Edward Carpentier, secretary, and and Mrs. Roland Tardif, public relations chairman. A for-fun ski race for all abilities and all ages is scheduled to kick off fund-raising for this year’s Jimmy Fund to benefit children with cancer. The race, scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday at the Spruce Mountain Ski Club, in Jay will benefit the Jimmy Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for Children in Boston. An informal group of nine members at the Spruce Mountain Ski Club has raised money for the last couple of years, bringing in $15,000 last year to the fund, according to Ken Jacques, a member of the Jimmy Fund crew. Registration for the race is $3 for members and $8 for nonmembers. It begins at 9 am. Later on Sunday, the ski club will be hosting “lollipop” races for children who have been taking lessons during school vacation. The club will also be hosting a “demo” day at which ski equipment suppliers will be on hand with samples for the public to view.
