PITTSFIELD — Local and state police were in an apparent standoff Friday at a residence on Detroit Road.
Authorities were initially called to a residence Friday at 8:15 a.m. for a “critical incident,” according to Maine State Police Public Information Officer Shannon Moss.
Officers from the Pittsfield Police Department, Maine State Police, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, and Clinton and Pittsfield fire departments reported to the scene.
Moss confirmed around 12:45 p.m. that the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team was activated and its members were at the residence in Pittsfield. The tactical team is often contacted to negotiate with people who prompt a police standoff.
Route 100 in Pittsfield in the area was shut down, although authorities said there is no danger to the public.
Shortly after 5 p.m., Moss said she had no update other than “the situation continues.” State police and officers were still on scene, she said.
