WATERVILLE — The Alfond Youth & Community Center plans to host its second annual Lucky 7K & Little Leprechaun 1K Dash at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19.
The race, professionally timed by Back 40 Events, will begin and end in the parking lot at the community center at 126 North St.
The first 50 registrants will receive a Lucky 7K winter race hat. Prizes will be given for top overall male/female finisher and top male/female finishers in each age category.
Bibs can be picked up at a designated spot in the parking lot of community center on the day of the race. The schedule of events is as follows:
• 7:30 a.m.: Race day registration and bib pick up;
• 8:30 a.m.: 7K Start; and
• 9 a.m.: Little Leprechaun 1K Dash.
All proceeds benefit the AYCC’s Unified Champion Club, a program dedicated to promoting social inclusion by joining adults with and without intellectual disabilities through shared recreational sports and activities. A simple principal that playing and competing together creates a quick path to friendships and understanding, according to a news release from the Alfond center.
Since the launching of the Unified Champion Club, the program offers more than 25 activities and has grown to 140 participants.
The event is sponsored by The Shyft Group Foundation/Duramag, Central Maine Motors Group, Central Maine Power, Front & Main, and Morin Orthodontics.
