CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Significant icing at upper elevations on the Narrow Gauge trail forced race organizers to cancel the U.S. Alpine Championship and NorAm Championship super-G races at Sugarloaf on Friday.

The super-G races had already been pushed back a day after originally being scheduled for Thursday. It’s the latest in a series of weather-related schedule changes this week, after Tuesday’s downhill national championship was canceled and moved to Wednesday. Training sessions on Sunday and Monday were also interrupted because of weather conditions.

Friday’s championship races will not be rescheduled, meaning no national titles will be decided this year in super-G. Olympic silver medalist in the event, Ryan Cochran-Siegle, as well as fellow U.S. Olympians River Radamus and Luke Winters were slated to compete in the super-G on Friday, as was top U.S. women’s skier AJ Hurt.

Events at Sugarloaf will resume Saturday with the women’s NorAm giant slalom championship, followed by the men’s NorAm giant slalom championship on Sunday. The men’s and women’s NorAm slalom championship races will follow on Monday.

The next U.S. Alpine Championship races will happen on Wednesday, with the men’s and women’s slalom championships. The men’s U.S. Alpine Championship giant slalom races will take place on Thursday, followed by the women’s U.S. Alpine Championship giant slalom to close out the championships on Friday.
