WATERVILLE — The high school spring sports season opened across Maine on Monday, with teams holding their first official practices.
Pitchers and catchers for baseball/softball were allowed to begin throwing on March 21.
However, Monday marked the first day all student-athletes could begin practices.
The weather didn’t fully cooperate, with temperatures hovering near freezing in parts of central Maine, but that didn’t stop many teams from squeezing in some workouts, even if they were indoors.
The Waterville track and field team, for example, practiced inside the high school, with sprinters running through hallways.
